I’ve been alive in the physical sense for over 31 years, but it wasn’t until I committed to traveling to new places and taking in new experiences a few years ago that I really began living. Don’t get me wrong. I wasn’t walking around unhappy, unsatisfied, upset or hating my life. For the most part, I was very happy with great friends and family, a solid career, and excellent health. All of those things are wonderful, but having them doesn’t equate to living in the sense that I know now after taking in new experiences through traveling domestically and internationally.
I’d always loved traveling and constantly look to take my travels to the next level. I used to feel embarrassed when I had no input into conversations with my well-traveled co-workers about their trips to Europe and Asia like it was a normal part of life. It is for some, but not where I’m from! When I got past fear and mentally shutting myself down with irrational thoughts like “You can’t afford a trip like that anytime soon…they’re rich, you’re not”, or “No one would be able to go with you and you realistically can’t go by yourself”, I made the leap and started planning an annual travel calendar. With proper planning, ANYONE can go anywhere they want! You may have to go solo or start with trips that aren’t necessarily your ultimate dream trips, but you can go and start experiencing your life in an entirely new way.
I’ll write more about some of my travels solo and with friends over time. But first, I want to share some tips to get you encouraged to get past your fears, hesitations or worries about traveling and book your next trip NOW!
5 Reasons You Should Book Your Next Trip NOW :
1.Why not? What do you really have to lose? Yes, it costs money to travel and you have bills to pay. And, I’m sure you have responsibilities to take care of at home. Most of us do. Can’t take those considerations lightly. But, think about all you could gain that outweighs the costs of your trip. The experience of taking in new places, meeting new people and gaining new perspectives far outweighs the sacrifices you may have to make for the trip.
2. Yes, you can travel alone and still have an amazing time! You love your family and friends and feel weird going to certain places alone. That’s understandable. To get the most out of your life, there will be times where you have to make a journey without others. If your family, friends, or other potential travel companions aren’t in a situation where they can join you for a trip that’s not enough reason for you not to go! You may have to change your desired trip location to one that’s safer for solo travelers, more cost effective and has good options for “fun” for solo travelers. Don’t miss out on what could be one of the most amazing experiences of your life because you have reservations about going by yourself. Go out and live your life! 3. It’s time for you to get out of your comfort zone. No matter where you are in your life, we could all do more of this. If you can’t think of the last time you placed yourself in an unfamiliar situation with people, places and things that aren’t in your normal routine, your trip to a new destination is a must! Visiting a place you’ve never been before would be a great way to push yourself in this area, even if you test your comfort limits often.
4. It doesn’t have to be an international trip. Traveling internationally is amazing and I highly recommend it! But, don’t neglect potential road trips in your neck of the woods. Check out options in your state, region, or country. This option will probably cost you less in time and money, but still allow you to have just as amazing of an experience as an international trip. You can work your way up over time.
5. The only thing stopping you is you! What are you waiting on? No matter who you are or what your circumstances are, you have been given the amazing gift of life and the ability to live it in the way you choose. Get past the fears and limitations you’ve put on yourself and starting planning for your travel experience NOW! With proper planning and diligence, anyone can afford to experience the wonders of new experiences through travel.
Best of luck with your planning and experiencing your next trip! Where are you thinking about going this year?
